What is Physical Therapy?
Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy (PT) involves use of various techniques to effect return to function following an injury or surgery and for persons with certain conditions. Depending on the particular area of PT, various types of modalities may be used including; Thermo therapy Manual therapy Exercises and stretches Electrical modalities Your session begins with an interview with our trained and qualified PT to discuss your general health as well as the reason for you seeking PT.
Following the interview, an assessment is performed where out PT observes your ability to perform certain movements and your response to certain orthopedic tests. Based on the findings, a treatment program is designed specifically for you which may consist of one or more modality. It is thus important to ensure that your concerns and goal are communicated to the therapist so that treatment outcomes can be optimized.
On the island of Barbados, it is generally preferred that you are referred to a Physical Therapist, as we do not yet have direct access. Referrals are accepted from Medical Doctors, Surgeons or other specialists such as Podiatrists or Osteopaths.

Improve breathing mechanics
PT is a vast world and has many subsets that can be aimed at addressing the rehabilitative needs of various populations including;
Cardiopulmonary PT – assists in the management of conditions that affect the heart and lungs
Neurological PT – assists in the management of conditions that affect the brain and nervous system, e.g. the deficits following a stroke Orthopedic PT – focuses on conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system e.g. muscles and joints
Geriatric PT – focuses on addressing the limitations and improving function of the elderly
Pediatric PT – addresses limitations related to childhood conditions and injuries
